August 2013

The main highlight this month has been the opening of the new Pediatric Ward here at the hospital. It was a great day and culmination of several years of hard work by many up here in Kompiam.

Dignitaries arrive in Kompiam for the Opening on MAF charter flight.

One of our medical students takes a Shim Sham class

School getting ready for the opening ceremony - they sung the National Anthem and did a recorder item

Inside the new ward - it's almost filled with babies and kids now

The elusive Ulysses butterfly (rotten thing won't open it's wings for me)

Celebrations for the opening (the pig wasn't celebrating)

Some of the hospital staff decorating with a truck load of the rainforest

The 6 rural doctors in Kompiam for training  - planted a tree to celebrate completing of the 2 weeks training

Make-shift swimming pool
The Governor speaking at the opening of the new Pediatric Ward

Opening day a bit too much for some - Napos falls asleep on one of the kids laps

Staff celebrations after the opening - the pig and associated food (Coke) split up in family groups

The highschool girls after doing their speeches

Our escort down to the river

Boys at the waterfall

Our escort on the way back from the river

I finally captured the elusive Ulysses with his blue wings showing (been about 5 years in the making)
